The Army?s Status: Sequestration and the Future

Participants of the Chamber?s annual Washington-to-Washington, D.C. Delegations will recognize Col. Coan as the kick-off briefer for all things Army.
Col. Coan will talk about the status of the Army now and for the foreseeable future and the impact of sequestration on that future. He will touch on the importance of total force integration (AC,RC) and regionally aligned forces initiatives. And, he will provide an update on DoD authorization and appropriations bills for FY 2015.
Colonel George P. Coan, Jr. has served as Director, National Security Studies for the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) in Arlington, Virginia, since January 2000. He retired from the U.S. Army on 1 July 1999 with over 30 years of active service, including more than 11 years of overseas service. A 1969 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, he also holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College.
Salute Pierce County: The Centennial of the Great War

The annual Destiny Dinner focuses on Pierce County?s rich military history. In cooperation with Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the dinner and events will be held at the American Lake Conference Center. Emcee Pierce County Councilmember Doug Richardson (Brig. Gen., USA, ret.) will introduce a variety of speakers and historic displays including a review of the acclaimed documentary ?Pershing?s Last Patriot.?
This year marks the Centennial of the Great War. JBLM came about in 1917 in response to these perilous times. However, troops trained in this area long before Campy Lewis came to be. This event on Oct. 19 is the beginning of a series of events leading up to the official JBLM 2017 anniversary.
