Over a 40-year educational career, Dr. Gene Sharratt has built a national reputation as an effective teacher, educational administrator, and researcher. When Gov. Jay Inslee appointed him Executive Director of the Washington Student Achievement Council in 2013, Dr. Sharratt was Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Washington State University.
Dr. Sharratt has authored or co-authored numerous scholarly articles on educational leadership. He also has written an inspirational book, Keeping on Your Feet, which highlights the value of hope, vision, and commitment on the part of adults to the lives of children. He worked for 30 years as an educator in public and private schools, serving as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, and educational service district superintendent. This experience was in Washington, Alaska, and at the International School in Stavanger, Norway.
Dr. Sharratt was recognized as the Washington State School Superintendent of the Year in 1991 and as the National Educational Administrator of the Year in 1988, and he received the Outstanding Teacher Award from Pi Lambda Theta Educational Honor Society in 1982. Dr. Sharratt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from WSU and a Master of Arts degree from Pacific Lutheran University. He received his Ph.D. from WSU.

November 6th, 2012, the residents of Washington’s new 10th Congressional District elected Denny Heck to be the district’s first member of the United States House of Representatives. Since taking office, Congressman Heck's top priorities have been creating jobs, growing our economy and keeping the American Dream alive for the middle class and those working to get into it. He has been a vocal advocate for military families and veterans as well as for the health and natural beauty of the Puget Sound’s environment.
Congressman Heck is a native Washingtonian and graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1973. He has been married for 39 years to Paula Fruci Heck, an educator who began her career as a teacher and retired as principal at Jefferson Middle School in Olympia. He and Paula have lived in Olympia for nearly 30 years and together they have two sons, Bob and Trey.

Over the last decade, employers have increasingly utilized non-compete agreements in managing their workforce. Although non-compete agreements have gained considerable application in workforce management, litigation surrounding such agreements has also steadily been on the rise. This West Side Wake Up will tackle common sense considerations for employers in determining whether non-compete agreements should be implemented in managing employees, as well as factors utilized by the legal system to determine whether such agreements are enforceable.
