DESCRIPTION:43rd Annual\n\nBUSINESS LEADERSHIP ACADEMY\n\n\n\nProviding individuals with a foundation for a lifelong commitment to leadership through awareness of key issues affecting organizations in this region.\n\n \n\n	\n		\n			WHAT IS THE BUSINESS LEADERSHIP ACADEMY?\n\n			\n\n			The Business Leadership Program of Tacoma-Pierce County provides an opportunity for current and emerging leaders to connect with others in the business community and develop additional leadership skills.\n\n			\n\n			During 11 sessions and a retreat\, we will explore leadership applications\, visit organizations\, learn from leaders who make an impact in our community\, assess our own strengths\, and reflect on opportunities for growth. This is a great opportunity to connect with the regional business community. \n\n			\n\n			The Business Leadership Program of Tacoma-Pierce County\, sponsored by the Chamber and Pacific Lutheran University\, is a regional community leadership program founded in 1978. Leading by example.\n\n\n\nSeptember 30: SITE VISIT\n\nDowntown Tacoma Walking Tour\n\nVisits to businesses and with leaders at the heart of our community.\n\n\n\nOctober 7: VISIONING AND FOCUS ON THE FUTURE\n\nHow leaders lead the way in envisioning the future of the organization. Engaging others in exploring what could be and together establish inspiring\, attainable visions. The critical importance of respecting and seeking after diverse perspectives.  \n\n\n\nOctober 14: LEADING CHANGE AND RISK TAKING\n\nSeeking opportunities for change and appropriate risk taking. The leader as change agent recognizing people and process change issues. Harnessing resistance to change as an opportunity. Leading strategic communication conversations.\n\nOctober 21: SITE VISIT\n\nEconomic Impact Exploration\n\nExploring leaders and organizations impacting the economy of our region.\n\n\n\nOctober 28: MOTIVATING AND LIFTING OTHERS\n\nUnderstanding what motivates and creating the environment where others choose to be motivated. Effective team leadership. What followership really means and how it energizes at multiple levels. Encouraging the heart and building commitment. Understanding power and influence.\n\n\n\nNovember 4: WHAT MATTERS MOST\n\nFocusing energies and building leadership skills for what matters most to us\, our organizations\, and our communities. The courage to lead in difficult times and circumstances. Civility as an essential leader responsibility.  \n\n\n\nNovember 11-12: RETREAT AT ALDERBROOK RESORT\n\nIntegrating our leadership learning and reflecting on next steps for our personalized leader development plan.
