About Advocacy for Business Round Table

This round table series is designed to foster thoughtful dialogue with policy leaders who are shaping decisions that impact our region. Discussions will focus on identifying the most significant policies affecting local businesses and exploring opportunities for meaningful advocacy.

About the Featured Speakers

Jani Hitchen, District 6, Chair

Jani Hitchen serves as the Chair of the Pierce County Council, representing district six which includes Lakewood, DuPont, Steilacoom, Parkland, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. First elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, she provides legislative leadership on issues ranging from public health and safety to housing and human services.
Councilmember Hitchen currently chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee and has served in key regional leadership roles, including the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health and the Washington State Public Health Advisory Board. She is widely recognized as a collaborative leader and advocate for behavioral health, affordable housing, and stronger community support systems across Pierce County.

Rosie Ayala, District 4

Rosie Ayala serves on the Pierce County Council representing District 4, which includes downtown Tacoma, Hilltop, Central. Lincoln District, South Tacoma, and the cities of Fircrest and University Place. Elected in 2024, she brings a strong commitment to community-centered leadership, equity, and expanding access to opportunity across Pierce County. Ayala is the first BIPOC woman to serve on the County Council.

Ayala has been engaged in advocacy efforts throughout her personal life and professional career with a focus on the well-being of those furthest from opportunities and in communities where there is historic disinvestment. Her professional history includes non-profit and government work in homeless services, healthcare access, education, and career-connected work with and for youth. She is recognized for her collaborative approach and dedication to uplifting community voices in policymaking, ensuring that county decisions reflect the needs and priorities of the residents she serves.
