Chamber Luncheon Featuring: Legislative Update Each month the Chamber hosts a luncheon where you can come and receive updates on the Chamber and the community. The Chamber provides 80-100 attendees with the opportunity to become informed whether it’s through candidate forums, seasonal updates, or award ceremonies. It’s no longer the Special Session, but with the Governor’s recent action calling the Legislature back, now the 2nd Special Session. Issues still remain unresolved: the state’s 2015-17 budget, education funding to comply with the state’s Supreme Court McCleary decision, capital projects and transportation funding. Maybe shortly at least one of these issues will be resolved, the transportation package including completion of SR 167. But while the recent Department of Revenue forecast has reduced the disparity between House and Senate budgets, the gap still exists. So, what are these two houses of our state government, lead by different political parties, doing to bridge the gap. Come get an update on what has been done so far, what remains as a challenge and perhaps just a little speculation on how it all might be resolved. Remember, the Chamber also provides an update on other critical issues, like the rules being developed for mandated paid leave and the proposed increase of the minimum wage, both in Tacoma. |
